best handheld gaming system

Which is the best handheld gaming system around at the moment? I'm thinking of getting one for someones birthday. It's for a girl who likes to play the simple, addictive type games that are all over the internet

gameboys are still the most popular, seem to have the biggest variety of fiddly games.

I see gameboy advance seems to be the one that's being sold at the moment. If anyone can recommend any of the types of games I mentioned above that'd be handy

Complete shit dot. The n-gage 2 is meant to be a lot better, but I don't think they're available yet. I don't like most converged devices anyway: they don't do any of the jobs well.

at €35 a throw, the games for the n-gage are way over priced IMHO...

I bought a Gameboy advance for the price of a PS2, which might seem excessive, but it got me around the long bus trips in Oz and NZ. So it has my vote forever!

I would give them a €150 voucher for Game/Gamestop/Smyths and they can get whatever one they think is best, more than likely the one you get them will not be the one all their mates have.

I've had a GB Advance and a GB Advance SP. The SP is definitely the one to get as it has the all-important backlight (plus it looks much nicer). However, you can only use it with a rechargeable battery, which may be a consideration if they plan to do a lot of travelling abroad.

like blastman says ,the gba -sp is probably you're best bet for handheld gaming.
...mind you I'm tempted to get one of these lads myself

a gba sized handheld that uses smart media cards. It plays divxs , avis and mp3's as well as running c64/nes/sms etc emulators...basically its like a ppc but it has proper gaming controls...

i have been tempted to buy a gba sp solely for the reason that i could buy one of those flash cards and put the games that i already have downloaded on to it

Are there any options other than gameboy, really? That one looks interesting dr_bob, but the person isn't that technical, so i'd want something easy to use.

to be honest ...no
the GBA sp is your best bet ...and games wise ,from the description you give , "warioware inc" , is probably a good game for them to go for , as its made of of a few hundred flash style mini games..

If that's the best of the bunch of simple games then I don't think it's going to suit. Does anyone know of any others? I'm after simple, addictive games, not huge complex epics. When I say simple I mean like Tetris, connect 4, Bejweled, etc.
