It doesn't really play to my strengths in that I hate running, and 20k on the bike is scarcely enough to warm you up. The swim sounds cool, though - out on open water and all that.

The distances sound moderate enough for a beginner like me though. Where could I practice my swimming? I'm not a member of a gym.

i'd be crap as well. specially on the swimming and the running. And I've not got a road bike so would have to put slicks on me MTB. But fuck it, Carlingford in August. Sounds lovely.

ro, i expect you'll want to swim more than forty feet in preparation for a 750m swim.

blather will become famous soon enough
God yes, 20k is way to short for a bike ride. What's it it usually in triathalons, about 160km? I could do a lot of damage in the time trial, but I wouldn't have the confidence for a swim that length in the sea. And I'm a crap runner, altho if it's on grass I may be ok. I'll start considering it.

It also depends on the date - the 5-day Tour of Ireland (one of Ireland's three UCI-ranked international races) is on 27th-31st - it's a professional/amateur race, depends on whether I can get into it or not.

Still, I am interested.

Should a half a triathlon not be called a 'One-and-a-half-athalon'?

different grades for triathlon ...
http://www.cs.sfu.ca/people/GradStud...q.html#answer2

750m is only 30 odd laps of standard (well irish standard pool). to be honest i'm not in it for a result, just for something to train to. currently cycle about 20k's a week! , on a good week!
