suckling the new-born God
Posted to a list I'm on. Now, I'm not a Xistian, but... There's a copy of the image here: http://www.blather.net/images/misc/the_madonna.jpg discuss, if you will... >-----Original Message----- >From: joe denicola [mailto:joe.denicola@chello.nl] >Sent: Tuesday, 21 November, 2000 12:20 PM >To: Joe Denicola >Subject: What's Wrong With This Image? > > > >Hello Friends, I would like to share with you a picture I scanned and shrunk >from the front page of a Dutch newspaper. It's a pretty, arty picture. Though, come on, we're supposed to believe she is breast feeding? They'd need to be at least half the size again...
Though if I was harkening on to reality then she wouldn't be wearing that necklace (damnit, I want it), and her skin tone should be several shades darker. Still, I can see why the CC is a tad upset. Icon-busting is not within their remit. They like to have their Deities distant and untouchable. It's kind of like the Queen in England, eh? Can't be seen to eat in public, or discuss anything remotely "common", her son needs an appointment to visit, ordained by God (unless installed under a revolution). Perhaps this is Mary working in Her mysterious way to bring a more sexy, normal version of Herself to the public? Can't see the Vatican hierarchy changing their vision of Her anytime soon... |

The model probably had never breast fed a baby, but it's still a good picture. Why the Catholic church is so resistant to updating their image is beyond me. I mean, how else would a baby have been fed in those days? They certainly didn't have Playtex bottles with the convenient drop in liner and the bottles of Similac on the shelves in the marketplace in Jerusalem, I'm sure.
Of course, I don't understand why people get so upset when a woman breast feeds anyway, so there you go. |

I'd rather look at that then that bloody poster up on Riders Row \ Capel Street:
"VI Thou Shalt not Commit Adultery" Ahh yes Mother Church is once again hitting the pulse of the nation. |

A sort of mutated version. The song you're thinking of is Babelogue, which has a slightly different connotation. You clever fellow you. |
