Cable television giants NTL have withdrawn from their proposed deal to broadcast Premier League matches on a pay-per-view basis from the start of next season. Their decision could throw into doubt the entire television deal agreed between the league, Sky, NTL and ITV earlier this year. NTL were set to pay the Premier League £328m for a three-year contract to screen 40 matches a season.
