Unionists in the North have attacked the DUP's reaction to the news that Stephen King, a close advisor to UUP leader David Trimble, has married his gay lover in Canada.
DUP spokesman Ian Paisley Jnr has described the marriage as "offensive" and "obnoxious" and claimed the majority of people in the North would agree with this view.
However, Ulster Unionist politician Chris McGimpsey has sprung to Mr King's defence, saying his private life was his own business and Mr Paisley Jnr was simply engaging in political opportunism over the matter.
David Irvine of the PUP also accused the DUP politician of rank hypocrisy, saying he had frequently seen Mr Paisley Jnr socialising happily with Mr King at Stormont.

Christ, he's an even bigger whack-job than his Dad...

According to my Sis who involved with NI politics, he is a much bigger nut-job then his da. But she did have a nice old laugh and joke with Dave Trimble at the last election count. Even though a few years ago he'd probably have happily shot her.

i have to say that son-of-ian is my favourite political personality...probably ever.
i crack up every time i see him on the television, even thinking of him now makes me smile. nobody takes him seriously, i mean what sort of man refers to himself as junior for christ's sake!!
reminds me of a little pup that yaps loudly from the safety of daddy's protective leg. he must be a huge dissappointment to his folks.
i'd imagine once ian senior pops his clogs (anything soon - fingers crossed) and joins that great orange march in the sky will he be told unequivocally to f**k off by the unionist hierarchy!!

No chance of anybody being caught up his, he'd have to stop talking first. Chance would be a fine thing!

Do you really think that's true? Thing is when somebody with a voice tells people what they want to hear, they listen. he's a nut-job, no doubt, but people do listen. Which is scary.

But sure it'll do them no harm. Plenty of people are agin the gays, and the vast majority of DUP voters, if not 100% are. The tiny amount they lose will be more than made up for by a new wave of support from the gay-hating community.

What Quiz said - I can't see too many DUP supporters being offended by this. Jr has a career after his dad dies - a ready made bigot with strong name recogniton isn't going to be squandered lightly.

Have to say that Trimble has always intrigued me... he has far more brains than any of the others. He's an arrogant prick but I can't help liking the fact that he can so supercilious. He cuts his opponents to ribbons and makes them look like bumblin idiots
When an interviewer asked him before the nth UUP conference about removing him from being party leader, he just grinned and said "I prefer to reserve an aura of mystery." You've got to admire the balls of the man.
And from what I read, when he was lecturing in law at Queens, he used to travel over to visit convicted Republicans in prison and teach them. Interesting...

Whenver I see the title of this thread I get a mental picture of Ian Paisley saying "I'm super, thanks for asking"

Interesting...He certainly is interesting, other stuff he could put on his CV may surprise you, like he was involved heavily with the UDA and UVF at one point to the extent that they broke the Sunningdale Agreement. He is a senior member of the Orange Order yet was behind recent moves in the UUP to distance themselves from the Order.
To me he is a man of many contradictions that are in conflict with each other.
