View Full Version : Fancy Rig-Out Needed
happycamper

I've a couple of weddings to attend in the next month or so and need a fancy frock or something a bit dressy. Its *ages* since I've been in town (avoiding sale mobs and general rioting that results over the last pair of shoes) so haven't a clue where to start, but have noticed that theres alot of casual stuff but nothing fancy...
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

What about that shop in the Georges Arcade?

As lovely as the clothes are in that place, my budget doesn't extend to €450 for one outfit......maybe about €200 would be ok tho

You could start in Coast, either in BT's or at the new shop on Stephen's Green.
Mind you a lot of people seem to go there for wedding outfits so you run the risk of turning up in the same outfit as someone else.
Monsoon or Accesorize if you want something sparkly to update an existing outfit. Or Costelloe & Costelloe for a new bag.
All the usual suspects really.

Debenhams always have a stock of fancy rig outs.

That place upstairs in Cleary's- Dream/Inwear (and a few others I can't remember) always have some nice stuff.

I alway get lost in Debenhams, but you're right, its a good place to start...
I'm going to avoid Coast cos I know 3 other people going to one of the weddings have targeted that place...
Are the sales over yet?

Monsoon have some nice stuff at the moment - its kind of a one stop shop for all your accessories as well. What colour/style were you thinking.

I know a few girls that supply Tulle in georges street arcade. the only reason that they are expensive is that they are basically homemade. Overall most of the stuff in there is not worth it.
The Sunday times was going on about dressing for weddings last week.
Avoid Coast, everyone does seem to turn up in something from there.
There's Rococo (sp?) next to the westbury mall.

Or the market on Cows Lane on Saturdays. I have gotten some great stuff there. It's a market for new designers and most stuff there is one off and not too pricy.
Try Costume too at the back entrance of Georges St Arcade, on the street between that and Powerscourt centre. Or if you're going to head in the fab skirt and top direction, try Vero Moda for the skirt. They have great ones in there now, fitted with netting at the end so you get the great arse and long legs illusion.

Off Dame Street. Walk to the Forum after Thomas Reads, and it's the turn off to the right.

Don't tempt me! I'm already putting my crown (dental, not royal) on the mortgage, and am considering a short trip to Madrid.

La Chica, don't forget you can get tax back on your crown expense - so you can spend that tax refund (before you get it) in Cow's Lane.

I've a wedding coming up on the 29th December - I'm debating whether to start looking for stuff now, or be really optimistic that I'll get something in whichever sale will start on the 27th December.......

Jesus Verion dont' even think of doing that! You'll be stuck with all the glittery / tinsel shite left over from christmas parties. I'd say buy something now. That way you're pretty much guaranteed that no one else will have it. Oasis have a customer evening on Wednesday with 15% off everything, have a look in there.

Fab stuff. I didn't have time to browse properly but I'm dedicating my entire lunch hour to it on Monday.
Coast has lovely stuff in the window. The weird thing is, their clothes don't seem *that* expensive anymore as the high street stores are creeping up on them rapidly! I couldn't believe the prices in Warehouse last night.
Surprisingly Principles have some lovely tops. It had gone very mumsy for a while but they seem to be back on track!!
I'd love a few thousand quid to blow on clothes......

I think that Coast are the best value clothes in town bar none. I bought an outfit there three years ago, and it is still good as new. It has been to weddings, christenings, communions, etc and even though it is 100% silk, it is still good as new, and I'm not careful with clothes! It cost £130 at the time and I've gotten more than double my money back.

Is it possible to actually purchase something in Zara? I have been in there three times since it opened and the checkout queues (in men's and women's wear) are so bloody long I just gave up. They seem to be operating on that lets-save-money-by-not-hiring-any-staff policy that you see a lot of these days.

I've spent my fair share of time waiting for the missus to go through Coast with a fine toothed comb. Of course it's all worth it for a slow wander through the cossie dollies (tm) on the ground floor.

I have bougt stuff in there a few times, but ALWAYS go to the men's floor to purchase. The ground floor is a joke.

I tried that on, it is truly devine but alas twas not made for me. Theres a nice place in the Swan Centre in Rathmines that do things that are a little bit different. Alicano near the St. Stephen's Green shopping centre is good for wedding gear if you like the lineny floaty look.
