'"All signs point to the convention becoming a magnet for protest as so many New Yorkers and others want to speak their mind about Bush policies, foreign and domestic," Mr. Dobbs said after attending the most recent Clearinghouse meeting.'

How accurate do you think that article is??

I'd love if it happened, but I can't see THAT many people getting off their arses and expressing an opinion.

I was a bit young then. Must have escaped my attention. Am not even sure I could SPELL America then, never mind understand the concept of protesting!! A little before my time.

To be honest, there were not massive number involved in Chicago. The major issue was the manner in which mayor Daily handled it...not very pleasent. I'm thinking that when you realize that hundreds of thousands gathered to protes the Iraq war, a million or so in NY wouldn;t surprise me at all.

It would be hugely impressive to see such a protest taking place. Here's hoping!!

Considering the amount of security Boston and the Democratic Convention have going on for this year, I can only imagine that the GOP has 100x that amount going on for it. The funny thing is that both the Fleet Center and MSG (where the bulk of the conventions are being held respectively) are major centers of transport (rail) for each of the cities. Interesting how much that will fuck up the commute for people and how in turn that will effect the vote.

You can be sure all of the convention goers will be where they are supposed to be. It's not as if the average citizen has to get to a polling place.

Why is the GOP having a convention? Isn't Bush running unopposed? Do they have to nominate him by law or something?

There still has to be a formal nomination process...plus it is where he sets out the parties platform for the upcoming election, rally the troops, feed the line of bullshit to the eager party liners. It's probably where he will also announce a new VP because I think Cheney is history.

also it's the big drunken party/photo op and 1 week of being the headlining story without doing much. Of course the same can be said for the Democrat Convention. Except thanks to the Dems it's damn near impossible to find Sox tix for that week.

Are you kidding? Cheney is the one that conservatives LOVE! If bush gets rid of him then his conservative support goes out the window. Plus bush is a puppet and we all know it. come on people

Maybe... if the mighty Yankees are in town at that time... I like to go up to Fenway wearing my Yankees hat and laugh at the Sox dugout and chant "Jeter's got 4 rings, Nomar got shit!!!"...

Good idea Ick...

Totally off-topic I know but I used to drink in a bar right beside Fenway .. it had music in it every night and different floors in the place.. kinda hippy hangout ... name of the place was rattskeller (or something similar).

Either of you know it at all ?

Oh geez baldy that place has been closed for a goodly amount of time now. It was on Landsdowne right? I think it's Axis or Avalon now.

I'm not talking about the convention vote. I have great faith that the delegates will get where they need to get to. I'm talking about when the Dems and GOP come to Boston and NYC respectively, they will be taking over areas that are centers of public transit. As it is, when the Dems come to Boston, the Fleet Center is essentially a no go zone. The Fleet Center is also, unfortunately, the Hub of transportation known as North Station which is used by local and suburban commuters, not to mention people taking Amtrak up to New Hampshire or Maine. What I'm wondering is, with all this disruption to regular people's daily commute, how it will effect the General Election in November.

Moody, yeah come up! We'll hit some bars on Landsdown and get a beer or three. :)
