I read a few accounts of the D-Day landings where troops have descirbed the effect of those guns shooting over your head. They could see shells the 'size of post boxes' flying about 50ft above their heads as the approached the beach.

I can send it to you twice that size. Fits the deskktop better. Or if you want an F-14 doing the same thing, I have that too.

The USN site has plenty of good pics www.navy.mil

The battleship was an awesome thing. Kind of sad that they are all mothballed now. Great pic though. Gotta admit that.

I'm a proud vertran of the US Navy. When I was flying F2H-3 BANSHEES off the USS WASP in 1956, we had a task force consisting of 2 Carriers, escorted by an IOWA Class BB, 2 Cruisers, 6 destroyers, and numerous auxiliaries.

It was great to see this whole force turn to windward to recover us.

BTW, when they put a refueling probe in the nose of the Banshee, we called the BANHEE.

God be with the days!

Which "theatre" were you in Treo? Pacific?

Treoraim

We were in WestPac, all over. Lot's of time spent patrolling the Straight of Taiwan, PI, Japan (The WASP was called Building 18 at Yokuska.)

Loved every minute of it. Scared myself shitless on a few dark night recoveries, but that's part of the game.
