Wee it look as if the rumours are true and Munster will follow Leinster next year in branding and image...wait for it...

The Munster Stags!!!! (not Munster Kings as had been rumoured)

This will be the new crest

Canterbury Sports wear (http://www.canterburynz.com/rugby/sponsor.htm)

Taken from the Statue of a stag on the Cork-Limerick road! There will be a new home red shirt next season. I suppose it had to happen for commercial reasons and if it helps bring in a few more bob towards the costs of winning the HC, I can live with it.

So will they have some goon with a stags head on running around before the game?

"Japanese, is it?"
"No, Canadian I think, Major..."

Probably and worse still a kiddies club called 'Munster fawns (or bambis)' and even worse cheerleaders called 'Munster Does'!!!!!

Oh for the days when the best entertainment at a Munster match was the Claw standing on someone's head.

The word on the street is that the crest is changing but not the name. They'll still be just Munster - not the kings or the stags or anything.

They're just changing the crest for copyright reasons.

The fans aren't taking too kindly to it though.

Like it matters. To the fans, they would still be just Munster. If it made them seem cooler and attracted more youngsters, and more sponsorship, that can only be a good thing.

maybe for the Johnny come latelys...I used love the mudbound, single figure battles ending with the 40 yard Johnny Pierce drop goals.

I don't think you can find an emblem more evocative than the three crowns on the old Munster jersey...but hey, what do I know, it's not my game anymore...

I have been going to Munster games for many a year and I defy anyone to find a better (besides Leicester, Gloucester & All Blacks) moment than Musgrave park - Munster vs Australia..wet day..crowd subdued...Munster team very subdued..Australia lording it tanned and talented...crowd sang national anthem at a whisper..then the Claw lays into the Australians..the crowd screams.. the garryowens rain and the wallabies fled.

Having said that I do remember the days of 3-0 rugby matches.

that was such a fucking brilliant day...you are, of course, right.

There was a Munster senior cup won by Shannon against Con with a last minute drop that i think is what I'm alluding to which was pretty sweet too!

i just miss the way I used to enjoy rugby when I was a kid...that game is finished and rugby is more exciting, richer and popular as a result and I have no problem with that...I just can't engage with it on the same level as i used to...the whole corporate side of the game I saw in Garryowen, with marquees and terrible bands playing 60's hits and barbequeues when I was growing up seemed so far removed from what you'd see down at Greenfields (and to an extent at Shannon in Thomond Park). Now it's the norm.

I'm such a curmudgeonly old bugger in some ways.

Ah you are ok! :D As some one who has sampled the delights of following Dolphin games in the Munster Senior League & AIL 2 when there was 10 people and a dog and it was pissing rain, i know where you are coming from. I used have to do scoreboard and when it was misty and rainy the only way I could tel if someone had score was by the way the players lined out! No Stag mascots there, the costume would have become unbearable after an hours rain.

anyway off to a company sponsered food & drinks evening.....out the gap like lightening....
