Got home yesterday to find a request for bin charges from the corporation - €154.
Was just wondering what'd the general concensus on these ? Are people paying them ?
The request was addressed to the previous occupant BTW, so I was considering ignoring it & in case anyone gets on me about opening other people's mail, the previous occupant is dead & has no next of kin.

I paid mine DD. It's tax deductable, dunno how you go about claiming it though. My TV License notification is addressed to the previous owner. Waiting 'til I get one in my name before I go out and get one.

I wish I could say "Fuck 'em", but my landlady gets the letters, so we have to pay it, as the lease says it's our responsability.
Still, fuck 'em.

You don't have to do anything. The Corpo notify the Tax Office and you get the tax relief the following year.

Those of us who live in the sticks have to pay or our bins won't be collected. (truck won't stop to collect it) I don't see why anyone in an urban area should have a special privelage

Just moved from the sticks Maurice, used to pay €50 a quarter because I had no option. Here I've got an option. they're picking up the bins anyway...

Hmm, interesting. Anything else out there that's auto tax-deductable? The reason I ask is that I'm paying a hell of a lot less tax per month this year than I was last year, and I've no idea why.

The first notice I got to pay the charge was very threatening "This is your sixth notice" which was bollix! So I caved,,,

i have no moral objections to paying for refuse collection, but i think that it should be accompanied by the green bin scheme, and the government should be putting pressure on manufacturers to use less packaging.

out in FCC land we are supposed to pay €5 for a tag. you then are supposed to put the tag on the bin and the bin is then collected. no one on my road has put a tag on their bin since i've been there. the bins are always collected. so until they stop collecting bins with no tags I shall be mostly following the masses.

154 is very cheap ... i know my folks have to pay around 350....
anyway .. it is this kind of attitude i have seen alot of you people complain about in the past .. what is seen as the cute hoorism of politicians ... it all begins at home .. if you cannot act with moral fortitude what right have you to expect it from others ??
recently swedish experts(the swedes have been at the forefront of recyling for many years) said that the amount of energy that is expended in recycling makes it environmentally unfriendly ... they recommend incineration.
now i assume they are only talking about renewable wastes ..

Like most others on here, I pay my taxes which are supposed to pay for this service, why should I pay again ?

Our taxes are supposed to pay for lots of things. What I've got a gripe with is the fact that urban dwellers seem to get their bins collected regardless while those of us beyond the pale only get collected if we pay. If some of us pay twice, then all of us should. (or we should all get away without paying)

if you don't pay for trash collection, how do you expect the service to cover its costs?
ffs.
