polling cards just arrived here today, and there wasnt one for me, so i guess im not registered to vote http://212.147.134.135/rant/frown.gif -- is it too late? (how/where do you register? -- both my brothers got auto-magically registered when they turned 18, i assumed i had aswell)

....oh, and before anyone starts giving out to me - i dont think this quite counts as politics talk, really, http://212.147.134.135/rant/tongue.gif

its too late.... the register is updating automatically on a particular date in a year but if your birthday falls after that you have to register manually or wait until the register is automatically updated the next year
but too late now for this vote

You can have mine if you like kingQuez. I don't recall "unregistering" when I emigrated and I don't what them thinking I'm apathetic about the political system and alienated from democracy.
Seriously though, I've only got to vote once in my entire life. I turned 18, voted for Maastricht or something, moved to Norn Iron, missed about 20 general elections because I was up there. In the one year I lived in Dublin there managed to be NO elections or referenda (possibly a miracle that has not occurred since), moved here and I can't vote because of being an alien.
But I can pay taxes...oh yes, lots of 'em.

Does that not constitute taxation without representation?

Indeed it does Julia! The very notion this country was founded in rejection of. Well isn't *that* ironic...
...good thing I don't have a job anymore or I'd have to be worried about such things...

Go to the polling station with proof of youself (passport / photo driving licence) and proof of address (bills etc) If you want to vote...
I havent had anything yet (i think its cos i moved) but it doesnt bother me that much...

Somehow that doesn't seem right, red. You should be allowed to vote if they're going to tax you. If you were a guy, and only had a green card, wouldn't you have to register for the draft?

Yeah, I would have to register for the draft I think. It seem a little nuts but that's the rules.
I'd be more concerned about people in prison who I think can't vote either. Now, that's unfair.

I think that's a state by state law, red. I know in Massachusetts, they tried to get a law passed that wouldn't allow prisoners the right to vote. I think it failed.
